Star Wars in Disney World

On August 29, 2019, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. Galaxy’s Edge is set on the planet of Batuu and you are truly transported to a different world.

Attractions

Star Wars: Millennium Falcon – Smuggler’s Run is the first ride showcased when Galaxy’s Edge opened. This ship is the “fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy” and visitors of Batuu have the chance to fly it. There are three roles guests may be placed into – pilot, gunner, or engineer.

All roles will be in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. There are three rows of seats with six seats in total. The pilots are closest to the screen and have the most to do as they’re guiding the ship. If you want to be the one to send your crew into hyperspace, you’ll want to be the left pilot.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance truly transports you to another world. Guests are recruits for the Resistance but are hijacked by the First Order. Kylo Ren, General Hux, and Stormtroopers do their best to obtain information but the recruits are saved by Resistance fighters. The chase to get away takes you throughout the ship while in outer space. Disney Imagineers’ animatronics are as real as the characters in the park.

If you’re a die hard Star Wars fan, you’ll want to experience Rise of the Resistance. In order to ride, you’ll need the My Disney Experience app to join a Boarding Group as part of the virtual queue. Virtual queues open at 7AM and 1PM and will go fast. We’ve got a few tips to help you get your boarding pass. Disney also offers FAQs for this ride.

Although Star Tours is not in Galaxy’s Edge, it is still a great attraction to experience the world of Star Wars. C-3PO and R2-D2 take you on a tour through hyperspace in this 3D space flight. Star Tours was updated to give passengers different versions of the flight simulator ride.

There are more than 60 different experiences with destinations to Naboo, Tatooine, the ice planet Hoth, and Coruscant. Passengers may also encounter Kylo Ren , Poe Dameron, Chewbacca’s, Princess Leia, Boba Fett, and others.

If you’re prone to motion sicknesses, please be sure you want to ride. The simulator can be fairly rough. Cast member will usual accommodate seating requests if possible.

Food and Drinks

Ronto Roasters is in the center of the Black Spire Outpost Marketplace. You wont miss it as there is a huge droid turning the meats while being cooked on a large podracing engine. The Ronto Wrap is a popular dish that can be found here. Roasted pork and grilled sausage with peppercorn sauce and tangy slaw wrapped in a pita is a nice selection for lunch in Batuu. Additional options have been added for vegan guests as well as early risers as a breakfast option. You can also add a Tatooine Sunset to wash it down or your choice of blue or green milk.

The Milk Stand offers guests the chance to taste the famous blue and green milk we watched Luke Skywalker enjoy in Star Wars: Episode IV Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, and green milk in Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi. Both are plant based frozen drinks with a fruity flavor.

Green milk, Blue milk, and Coca-Cola product detonators

Coca-Cola products are available in specialized bottles that look like detonators. Choose from Coke, Diet Coke, or Sprite flavors. Once consumed and cleaned thoroughly, they can make a great souvenir to take home.

If you’re looking for more of a sit down restaurant in Batuu, Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo is where you’ll want to be. With new menu options recently released, guests will experience out of this world dining.

The new lineup includes a spicy chicken meal called the Pirjanad Hot Chicken Tip Yip which has a spicy chipotle sauce and served with white rice and relish. It seems as if Disney has joined the spicy chicken race with this one. It will cost you $15.49 to enjoy. There is also a raw tuna dish with spicy sriracha dressing if you’re staying on trend with the spicy dishes. This dish is served with green papaya salad, pickled mushrooms, fresh herbs, and crispy garlic. The Peka Tuna Poke will cost $17.99.

If you would like to try out some of the original menu, it’s still available. Some of our favorites are the Smoked Kaadu Pork Ribs for $16.99 and the Felucian Kefta and Hummus Garden Spread when we’re focusing on our plant based diet. This includes plant-based meatballs, herb hummus, tomato-cucumber relish, and a pita.

If there’s room for dessert, the new menu offers the Outpost Puff. It is a chocolate pastry filled with Guajillo Chocolate Mousse and Green Milk sauce. I wish they still had the Oi-Oi Puff but it’s no longer showing on the menu.

Be sure to use the Mobile Order in the My Disney Experience app to avoid long waits and that hangry feeling amongst your group.

Oga’s Cantina is family friendly but mainly markets to the 21 and older crowd. Concoctions with alcohol and without alcohol are available, but you must have a reservation to enter. Once inside you’ll enjoy the sounds of DJ Rex.

Experiences

Savi’s Workshop will introduce you to the Gatherers and a secret workshop where guests can construct their own lightsabers. You will choose one of four themes – peace and justice, power and control, elemental nature, and protection and defense. Once the hilt is chosen, the Gatherers will help you select your kyber crystal. In this process they share details about Jedi masters and Sith Lords that also made these choices. Kyber crystals are available in blue like in Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber, green which Master Yoda has, violet as used in Master Mace Windu’s lightsaber, and red mainly used by those that follow the dark side of the Force.

This experience is one of the more expensive ones in Galaxy’s Edge at $219.99 per lightsaber, plus tax. Advanced reservation are highly recommended, but depending on the time of day and season, walk-ins may be available.

In the Droid Depot guests can build their own sidekick. You can choose either a BB-series like BB-8 or an R-series like R2-D2. Whichever you choose, you’re literally making a new friend that will be with you throughout your travels in Batuu. Guest have choices of colors and components for the BB-series and the R-series droids. Pricing is $99.99 per astromech droid unit, plus tax. Add-ons are available for an additional cost which will only enhance the experience in the droid depot and while walking around Batuu.

Your droid will interact with other droids and elements throughout the land as well as on some attractions. We built a droid right before our Ride of Resistance boarding pass. Her reactions seemed a bit nervous as we were unknowingly nearing Kylo Ren and Stormtroopers.

Add-ons can be purchased during the time of build or afterwards. Droid Depot also offers prebuilt droids, apparel, and action figures inspired by the elements of the depot.

Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities is run by Dok-Ondar of course. Here he has a number of treasures and secrets for sale to guests of Batuu. You’ll find items such as jewelry’s, paintings and sculptures, rare kyber crystals, and the rare Legacy Lightsabers. What is a Legacy Lightsaber you ask. Legacy Lightsabers are modeled after the lightsabers of some of the most iconic Star Wars characters and sold exclusively in Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Ahsoka Tano are some of the lightsabers you can find in Dok-Ondar’s.

Legacy Lightsabers found in Dok-Ondar’s

If there is a specific Legacy Lightsabers you’re interested in, keep in mind that all aren’t always available. They do occasionally sell out and may take some time to restock. But that’s just another reason to visit Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge more.

Upcoming

Scheduled for 2022, there will be an all-immersive adventure upon the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. Guests will begin their adventure by entering a special launch pod that will jump into hyperspace to a galaxy far far away.

The Halcyon Starcruiser will be home for the next two days. Guest should be aware that they will not be allowed to leave the Starcruiser during their stay. This stay is designed to give the feeling you are truly in space. Activities and food options will be available so there isn’t FOMO from the parks that are actually outside.

More details will be available as constructions continues. Disney Park Blog shared interesting news regarding a new type of lightsaber. Click here to see the video.

Whether it’s your first time or you’ve visited Batuu many times already, it’s something you’ll never forget.
