Day 2 – Disney Cruise Line Adventure

WELCOME TO NASSAU!!!

Our second day aboard the Disney Dream took us to the port of Nassau, Bahamas. The ship usually pulls in to port around sunrise. Our stateroom was inside and had a magic porthole with live viewing. This came in handy when I couldn’t get out the bed to run to the top deck to watch the sunrise.

But first breakfast. This day we chose to try out one of the three restaurants. Our head server mentioned these options to us during dinner the night before. We walked down to level 2 and enjoyed breakfast at the Enchanted Garden. And we got to sit in the tea cups! Breakfast was a buffet style but had many options.

After breakfast, it was time for the main event. We have looked forward to this day since booking this trip; which is now almost a year ago. We became experts of YouTube what to do in Nassau searches and discovered the Queen’s Staircase. The Queen’s Staircase are a set of 65 steps carved out of solid limestone rock by 600 slaves between 1793 and 1794. It is a major landmark located in Nassau, Bahamas. But before you get to the actual staircase, you must first walk through a tropical paradise. img_8963

The limestone walls and oversized trees take you to such a peaceful place. And if you take the time to just listen, you’ll hear amazing stories from some of the tour guides. When you’re ready to make the journey up the 65 steps, TAKE YOUR TIME. The staircase has two landings with one next to a beautiful waterfall. Once at the top, be sure to take a picture by the sign and head towards your right to visit Fort Charlotte.

Named in honor of Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III, Fort Charlotte is the largest fort in Nassau. From here you can see all fo the island and visit the tunnels and canyons. There’s also a small straw market with wonderful local items for purchase.

With just a 15 minute walk from the cruise ship port, this was a great adventure to start our day in Nassau. I made sure to screenshot the map and directions from my phone before we left the ship’s wifi.

Time to eat again. Isn’t that something that’s on everyone’s list during a cruise. We went back to the ship for lunch and a nap. Other options are to explore the downtown area or take a cab or port excursion to the famous Atlantis.

Dinner on Day 2 was at Animator’s Palate. Other than Crush the sea turtle, dinner was just okay. Thankfully we had 24 hour room service before we went out to see the broadway show Beauty and the Beast and then prepare for Pirate Night. Watching Jack Sparrow and other characters in their pirate attire, along with our fellow cruisers is a moment we will not forget. Then there are the fireworks! Disney is currently the only major cruise line to have fireworks at sea. And it’s a show you don’t want to miss!

So that’s a brief review of Day 2 on the Disney Dream. And of course we ended it with ice cream. But instead of the all you can eat machines, we decided to visit VANELLOPE’S.

Stay tuned for our Day 3 and Day 4 adventures on the Disney Dream.
