Our Disney Cruise Line Adventure begins in Port Canaveral, FL. It’s a beautiful day despite what the forecast predicted earlier in the week. We had been having cooler temps but it is November so can’t truly complain.
This is Rhiyan’s first cruise and my first in years. So we both are very excited! Disney does something that other cruise lines don’t do and that’s welcome you aboard in a most magical way. After watching so many other Disney friend’s videos, to have our own introduction was finally happening.
Once aboard, there’s so much to take in. The entry feels as if you’re in the ballroom of the Beast’s castle. There are chandeliers and beautiful jewel tones in the carpet and other decor. And let’s not forget this is a Very Merrytime Cruise, so Christmas is everywhere. But has not been brought to life yet. That will happen later tonight.
One thing to remember is your Key to the World card. Hopefully with the new ships they’ll incorporate magic bands but until then this is your life!!! The Key to the World cards serves as your room keys and charging cards on the ship. You’re not allowed to pay with cash for anything on the ship so you must have your Key to the World card at all times.

The card also shows your dining time, table number, and rotation. We were aboard the Disney Dream and enjoyed three themed dining venues – Royal Palace (R), Animator’s Palate (A), and Enchanted Garden (E). We ate at a different restaurant each night and you can actually chose to eat breakfast and/or lunch at these restaurants during the trip as well. I wish we would’ve done this more, but Cabanas was our go to for breakfast and lunch this trip as we had other activities planned.
Upon arrival, some families browse the ship and we did this too! But the majority are hungry after the travel to Port Canaveral and run to Cabanas.
Cabanas is free-flowing buffet experience serving made-to-order mouthwatering specialties. With both indoor and outdoor seating, you feel as if you’re on the boardwalk. It’s also on the same Deck as the main pools and all you can eat ice cream machines. Take it from us, enjoy your meal outside. Yes Cabanas has floor-to-ceiling windows, so you will still have a view of the ocean. But being able to enjoy the sun and ocean breeze brings a different kind of peace.
The highlight of Day 1 is when Mickey and friends bring Christmas to life on the ship. Be sure to check your Voyage Navigator (trip itinerary) upon arrival for start time. It can get crowded and you do not want to miss this. Check below for the magic!
