School just ended, but soon we’ll be preparing for the new school year and a new grade. Of course we’ll download the school supply list and be on the hunt for the best deals of binders, notebooks, pens, mechanical pencils, and the highly teacher requested cleaning wipes and facial tissue. But we must also prepare for the fine art side as Rhi will be attending the School of the Arts here in our area. This is such a great opportunity for her to continue her high academics and express her creative side.
She’ll be studying dance, piano, art, and hopefully some new skills. With dance comes a dress code. A typical dress code for dance classes, students are expected to wear standard dance wear for class such as leotards, solid color jazz pants, capris, or fitted boy shorts. For Rhi’s school the additional are required:
- All leotards in MSA Dress Code should be MSA approved leotards (no cami or low back).
- Hair must be worn out of the face and secured back during class; this goes for ladies and gents. (Hair ties, bobby pins, hair pins, clips, elastic headbands).
- No jewelry will be worn during class.
- No visible under garments. Girls: black sports bra recommended.
Nothing to worry about, right. Well I am a bit worried about the hair. We’re natural curly girls and although doable, we can have hard times putting our hair in a bun. And for her to have to do this possibly on a daily basis, makes me nervous. So we are preparing now.
Our current wash routine begins with Shea Moisture’s Coconut & Hibiscus Shine Shampoo and Conditioner. We like it because of the natural ingredients such as coconut and neem oil. We’ll admit, we had to research the neem oil. But that’s helpful in knowing exactly what you’re using on your hair. The neem oil helps cleanse our scalps as we at times have dry patches near the front and crown of our heads. Shea Moisture’s Coconut & Hibiscus Shine Shampoo and Conditioner also has a nice smell. So the shampoo and conditioner combination is not the problem. We have a hard time with finding the right stylers for our hair.
So over the next few weeks we will be trying out some products to see which will work best for the upcoming school year and dance classes.

- As I Am Curling Jelly
