Do you close your rings?

Our household is strictly Apple. Rhi has her iMac and I have a Macbook Pro. We both have iPhones and Apple Watches. Oh yeah and lets not forget the Apple TV is in the living room as well as the older model in Rhi’s bedroom. Yeah, we’re an Apple household. We also love Nike. As you are aware, Nike makes more than shoes. I was a die hard Nike FuelBand supporter. I actually had three because the spring in the button would always go out. The customer service at Nike has always been supreme and they would send me a replacement whenever this happened. But Nike chose to discontinue their FuelBand with the introduction of the Apple Watch Nike series.

My feelings were hurt. Seriously. I truly loved my Nike FuelBand and wasn’t ready to let it go. I knew it was time when I couldn’t update the software for it anymore. I had to look into purchasing another fitness tracker. I tried two other brands before finally giving in to the Apple Watch. I’m now on my second one and gave my Series 1 to Rhi.

The Apple Watch is a smart watch used for fitness tracking and other health related capabilities. You can check your messages and emails and depending on the app, it will mirror your iPhone’s settings. But we use it mainly to feed our competitive edge. Which brings us to……THE RINGS.

There are three rings: Move, Exercise, Stand. Our goal is to close each of them – every day.

With July being birthday month for both of us, we know workouts will be hard on some days. I mean, its birthday month which calls for some kind of sweet treat. But we will be challenging each other to close those rings, and if you have an Apple Watch we encourage you to do the same.

Great ways to close the move and exercise rings are:

  • Using the Nike Training Club app
  • While walking outside, be sure to start the Nike Run app or the workout app that is included with the Apple Watch
  • An afternoon at the beach
  • Spending the day at an amusement park
  • Shopping at the outlet mall

Closing the stand ring is by doing exactly what it tells you to do. Our watches send a buzz reminder to stand and move around for 1 minute. As long as you do this during 12 different hours of the day, you can close your stand ring.

Rhi is a part of the tech generation. Everything they do is on social media or they’re sharing via group texts or DMs. Apple has added this to the Apple Watch and we can share our progress with each other. And in true competitive nature, we smack talk to each other – in a I’m still the mom so you know better to try me type of way 🙂 But its all in fun and a way to push each other to start the workouts we plan for at the beginning of the week and give just a little more towards the end.

We’ll check back with our progress mid-July to see if we are staying true to closing the rings.
